Welcome to MOTTOresearch, formerly Hepworth Hodgson Partners. Russ Hepworth-Sawyer and Jay Hodgson have worked collectively on numerous academic and musical projects since 2005. Russ & Jay are perhaps best known for their work as mastering engineers for MOTTOsound and for their contributions to global academia in the field of music production studies. Between them, they are also: occasional musicians; music producers; sound engineers and part-time academics. Russ holds a part-time Senior Lecturer position at York St John University, UK, and Jay is a Professor, in Canada, at Western University’s Popular Music Studies program.
Russ and Jay have collaborated on many projects over the years. Most recently, though, they co-founded the Innovation In Music (http://musicinnovation.co.uk) conference series and its associated series of books. They have a number of books with Routledge/Focal Press, such as Audio Mastering: The Artists as part of the Perspectives On Music Production series.
In 2016, Mark Marrington joined Hepworth Hodgson Partners. Mark is a seasoned academic working in a wide range of research areas, one being the application and effect of the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Mark joins us as joint editor of the Perspectives On Music Production series of books for Routledge, encompassing a wide scope of research in the study of music production. Mark is also a key member of the team working on the Music Production Education Conference series.
